Prebendal School – Chichester, West Sussex, UK

The earliest records about Prebendal School date back to 1497, but it was probably founded in around 1100AD when Chichester Cathedral was consecrated as a cathedral.  It is housed almost exclusively in a series of medieval buildings in the centre of Chichester, right next to the cathedral and provides the choristers for the cathedral.  There are about 180 pupils, roughly 60/40 boys to girls; 14 of them are choristers and there are 4 trainee choristers.

Chichester is a small city of just over 23,000 people and is dominated by the splendid cathedral.  It is believed to have been an important site when the country was occupied by the Romans between 43 and 410AD.  Today it is known for its medieval town centre and for culture, notably at the Chichester Festival Theatre and the Pallant House Gallery.
