About the Bowdleflodes

The Bowdleflodes is a series of children’s short stories, written by Neil Lawson Baker and illustrated by Lauren Alderslade, which follow the life of a vet (veterinary surgeon). The vet is called Professor Gett and he is made the head of the Bowdleflode Wildlife Park by Queen Charlotte and King Harold.  Bowdleflodeland is in far away space.

Each story develops from the previous one but is also a story in its own right.  They are all written in a rhythmic iambic pentameter. They are engaging to read or listen to for all ages, but are aimed at young children and beautifully illustrated.

At the end of each book the reader is invited to create a fantasy animal by drawing and /or painting something extraordinary … ‘a fantasmagorical animal’ born of each child’s imagination.
